Photo – Tillamook Cheese VW

I had passed a billboard in LA somewhere with three little VW split window buses on it for Tillamook Cheese. Little did I know that the vans actually existed and were part of a marketing campaign for the cheese maker. To my surprise I found one in Venice on friday night. After enjoying a Grilled Cheese Truck Mac n Cheese Grilled Cheese.  Also that the delicious grilled cheese sandwich I had just devoured was made with Tillamook cheese. Double rad.

Since picking up Project Westy, I have learned a bit about the van’s heritage. This engine is the original 1600cc air cooled – single carburated model that was the predecessor to the engine in my 74. Look at the simplicty.

The Tillamook vans have been dropped three inches and been chopped in length to under 9 feet. Check out apron wearing home boy towering over the squat little van.

Dig it. What a great idea for a campaign.
